Hashtags were implemented on the most popular social media website on June 2013 (Crossfield, 2014) and with it came the fantastic ability for marketers to use market segmentation for their social media campaigns. Hashtags present an opportunity for content marketers to have social media conversations that are relevant to their business and to get their content in front of the right people (Crossfield, 2014). Hashtags are the glue that holds cross-platform competitions and social media campaigns together, making it easier to interact with consumers to generate brand engagement.
What are Hashtags?
Hashtags are a word or group of words after the # sign that link to a thread of content that also contains that word or group of words (Wishpond, n.a). An example of this is #throwbackthursday or #vacation. We will be talking about two types of marketing hashtags that will help you market your business’ brand and promotions, brand and campaign hashtags.
